Up next in our special interview series is Dave, the technical director in our studio and a true Warhammer veteran.

1. Can you share with the community the story of how you got into Warhammer?

My 1st introduction to Games Workshop came with Heroquest, which I was given for Christmas as a child & my friend had a copy of Space Crusade (showing my age now). After that was a long gap until I was given the 2nd edition starter box with its 40 Gretchen & card dreadnoughts. As many of my friends at school were also into it, we had a lot of games and weekends spent playing or looking in the shop at things we couldn’t afford.

2. What drew you to the universe?

White dwarf always had pictures of tables with armies on them which I always thought were really cool. Back then, it was all very bright by today’s standards, but I quite liked that aesthetic. I thought with a bit of practice, I could nail the painting (turns out not so much looking at the miniatures I have uncovered in boxes since).

3. Which is your favourite Warhammer Faction?

I have large Tyranid (army I wanted when I was younger) & Mechanicus (one of the newer ones that didn’t exist back then) armies. I like that each of them are different style of play & colour scheme.

4. Which is your favourite Warhammer miniature?

Belisarius Cawl is one really like. The detail has come on so much since the days of lead (bent swords and models that, if dropped, could break your foot!). I think it took forever to paint all the little details, but it came out quite well (ask me again in 20 years).
