Seven years ago, Warhammer Combat Cards first entered the battlefield. Since then, we’ve released thousands of cards, introduced countless events, watched incredible community-created strategies emerge, and continued working to make the game bigger and better with every update.
As we celebrate our seventh anniversary, we wanted to take a moment to look back at some of the biggest additions and improvements we’ve made over the past year.
Whether you’ve been with us since day one or joined the fight more recently, thank you for being part of this journey.
Enhancements: A New Layer of Strategy
Without question, one of the biggest additions this year has been Enhancements.
For the first time, cards became more than just something to level. Enhancements introduced meaningful customization, allowing cards to be tailored to suit your preferred playstyle.
Each card now has three Enhancement slots, giving players the opportunity to choose between randomized stat bonuses that improve Wounds, Ranged, Melee, Psychic, or all of the above! Whether you prefer creating resilient frontline commanders or devastating damage dealers, Enhancements have opened up new strategic possibilities across every faction.
We also expanded card progression to support the system, increasing Warlord levels while ensuring existing player progress remained intact. Max-level Warlords immediately gained access to multiple Enhancement slots, making the transition as smooth as possible.
Perhaps most excitingly, Enhancements didn’t stop with Legendary cards. Throughout the year, the system expanded across Common, Rare, Epic and Legendary cards, giving every part of your collection more depth and making deckbuilding more meaningful than ever before.
Epic Cards Got Even Better
Another major quality-of-life improvement came to Epic cards.
We moved their second trait further forward in their progression, allowing players to unlock what often defines an Epic card much earlier. This means Epic cards reach their full strategic potential sooner, making them far more rewarding to collect, level, and build around.
It’s a simple change, but one that has had a significant impact on progression and deck variety.
Welcome to Draft Mode
This year also saw the arrival of one of our most requested game modes: Draft.
Draft offers an entirely different way to play Warhammer Combat Cards. Instead of relying on your own collection, every run begins with a fresh draft where players build a deck from randomly offered Warlords and Bodyguards before battling through an increasingly difficult campaign.
Because everyone drafts from the same pool of cards, every run starts on equal footing. It’s the perfect place to experiment with cards you may never have used before, discover unexpected synergies, and put your deckbuilding skills to the test.
Alongside the mode came Draft Tokens, a dedicated currency that lets players jump into Draft runs while rewarding strong performances with additional entries. Players capable of consistently reaching the higher reward tiers can even sustain their Draft runs through their victories.
The mode also introduced a brand-new campaign interface, dynamic reward tracking, exclusive cosmetics, and a fresh progression system that we’re excited to continue building upon in future updates.
Draft represents one of the largest additions to Warhammer Combat Cards since launch, and we’re only getting started.
Keeping the Battlefield Looking Its Best
The Warhammer universe is constantly evolving, and we want Combat Cards to reflect that.
Over the past year we’ve continued updating card artwork featuring miniatures to showcase the latest official Citadel models wherever possible, helping keep the game visually aligned with the newest releases across the Warhammer universe.
It’s a subtle change that helps ensure your favourite factions continue to look their absolute best.
Seven Years… and We’re Not Done Yet
Looking back over the past year, it’s incredible to see just how much Warhammer Combat Cards has continued to evolve.
From introducing entirely new progression systems through Enhancements, to launching Draft Mode, improving card progression, updating visuals, and continuing to expand the game with new cards, events and features, we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together.
But we’re even more excited about what’s still to come.
Every piece of feedback, every battle fought, every event completed and every strategy shared has helped shape Warhammer Combat Cards into the game it is today.
From everyone here on the team, thank you for seven incredible years of support.
Here’s to the next battle.
And here’s to many more years of Warhammer Combat Cards.
