Greetings, Citizens!
We’ve seen a lot of questions about how card packs actually work, especially around Focused Packs and x3 events. Some of this can be explained how randomness works in the short term versus how the system works over time.
Before we get into the mechanics, it’s important to explain what the system is designed to do, not just how it rolls numbers.
How Card Drops Are Designed (Before the Numbers)
Our card system is built around three core goals:
- Fair randomness on every individual card roll – Every card is generated independently using published odds. Card generation does not adjust based on spending, playstyle, or past results.
- Consistent long-term progression – Short term results can vary widely, but the long term average and mechanics like Wild Cards and Clan Dedications are designed to smooth progression over time and allow players to actively shape their collection.
- Different packs for different player goals – Some packs are better for discovering new cards. Others are designed to upgrade cards faster. Understanding that difference is key to improving the results you want.
With that context, here’s how the system works step by step.
How Card Draws Work in Standard Packs
Whenever you open a standard pack or earn a card reward, each card is generated individually using the same process. Standard packs cover all randomised card rewards with the exception of Focused Hero packs, so Victory packs (Skull Chests), reward packs, and any other packs in the store.
Step 1: Determine How Many Cards You Get
The pack or reward defines how many cards you receive (for example, 10 cards or 100 cards). Each card is then generated one at a time.
Step 2: Roll for Card Rarity
Each card rolls against the pack’s rarity table. For standard packs, the odds are:
- Common: 80%
- Rare: 12.75%
- Epic: 6.5%
- Legendary: 0.75%
(Some packs use different odds, these are always listed in the pack’s info.)
Step 3: Select a Specific Card
Once a rarity is rolled, all cards of that rarity have equal odds of being selected.
Example: If there are 5 Legendary cards available, each has a 20% chance when a Legendary roll occurs.
Step 4: Wild Card Conversion
After a card is selected, it may convert into a Faction Wild Card instead of being awarded as that specific card.
- Not all packs can drop Wild Cards
- Wild Card chances scale with player level
- If no conversion happens, you receive the card normally
Step 5: True Wild Card Check
If a Faction Wild Card is generated, there is a final check to see if it becomes a True Wild Card.
- This has a flat 1 / 6 odds
This process repeats until all cards in the pack are generated.
Focused Packs Explained: Depth Over Breadth
Focused Hero Packs are designed for faster upgrades, not wider collection discovery.
They are best understood as a depth-focused progression tool.
How Focused Packs Work
Before any cards are rolled, the game temporarily selects a smaller pool of cards for each rarity.
Example:
- Instead of drawing from the 20 possible Common cards in a Hero Pack, the pack draws from a reduced pool of 6.
- This reduced pool is chosen randomly with each card weighted equally.
- Rarity odds do not change.
Once the pool is set:
- All cards of that rarity come from that pool.
- Wild Card and True Wild Card checks are unchanged.
What This Means in Practice
Focused Packs trade collection breadth for upgrade efficiency:
- Much higher chance of receiving duplicates
- Faster leveling and upgrades for cards drawn
- Lower chance of seeing many different cards
When Should You Use Focused Packs?
Focused Packs are ideal if:
- You already own most cards
- You want to upgrade specific cards from the pack
- You value progression speed over card discovery
If your goal is to unlock new cards or expand your collection, standard packs are usually the better choice.
x3 Events Explained
x3 Card Events
These events triple the number of cards you receive, not the result of each roll.
Example:
A pack that normally gives 100 cards will give 300 cards
- Each card is rolled independently using the standard rules
Important clarification:
- Cards are not duplicated after rolling
- You are getting three times as many rolls, not three copies per roll
x3 Wild Card Events
These events increase the chance of a card converting into a Wild Card by 3×.
- Applies only to the Wild Card conversion step
- Does not affect True Wild Card odds
- You still receive one Wild Card per successful conversion
Packs that cannot drop Wild Cards are unaffected.
Looking Ahead
We know the randomness of card drops can feel very different from one player to another. Systems like Wild Cards, Dedications, Rogue Trader and the Card Shop are designed to give players more control over how their collections develop. Giving more transparency on card acquisition in this blog, and running regular events like x3 bonuses aim to improve and maintain that as well. Looking forward it is something that we are aiming to continue with in future releases as well.
We hope this breakdown clarifies how packs, Focused Packs, and x3 events actually work behind the scenes. With this explanation we hope players are in a better position to pick the packs best to suit their needs, and know what to expect when opening.
As always, we appreciate the feedback and questions, keep them coming.
Happy collecting!
Please go back to adding legendary cards to the card shop, and make ALL card’s purchasable with coins, no plasma required.
Great breakdown. On clarifying question. Wild Card chances scale with player level
Is there a table or formula that indicates what this number is?
For Ranked and Apocalypse you should give final rewards based on the factions used. So if someone used only one faction they only get that faction cards back.
This helps higher levels improve card upgrades when you need more.
You also need a stronger deck to get full points as you will solo faction score.
Your solo faction score will make progress more difficult the high it is.
You will face more difficult decks whom will be doing the same.
But you can concentrate and push for your fav factions and improve the ones you want to.
It would feel more rewarding
