The Red Gobbo season will start on Monday, December 23rd.
Greetings, citizens,
Not to miss out when there are gifts to be given, the Red Gobbo has turned up right on cue with a sack full of loot for all the naughty Grotz out there!
This Season will cover a special 2-for-1, with both the Grotmas and Krieg Seasons falling over the holiday period.
The Red Gobbo Pass will be active from 23/12/24 to 01/01/25. It has 9 levels (1 for each day), and despite being about a third of the usual duration and priced at only $4.99, the rewards are greater than two-thirds of a standard pass! For value over effort, the Red Gobbo Pass is more rewarding than even a regular battle pass, with a quicker progression of content to enjoy.
Following that will be the Astra Militarum Pass running 01/01/25 – 20/01/25. This will run as a full battle pass, but each skull requirement for each tier is down to 3 skulls rather than 5, meaning that it will be quicker to complete, even with the reduced run time!
With that in mind we’ve got some Seasonal Bodyguard adjustments to both Ork and Servants of the Emperor factions, and we’ve also sprinkled in a bit of festive cheer with two significant buffs to older warlords from other factions!
Orks
Ranglegit – Snakebite Clan Beast Snagga Boy
+8 Melee
Adding a bit of a more meaningful punch to a more expensive endless card, means there’s a bit more consideration here than just the cheapest body, especially relevant in the new Apocalypse seasons where points aren’t as tight!
Gubbinz – Big Mek with Shokk-Attack Gun
+10 Range
There’s a lot of competition for high-impact damage dealers in the Ork roster, so Grimclaw has been needing some extra power behind his powerklaw, and with some new gubbinz plugged in he has just that!
Grimclaw – Snakebite Clan Beast Snagga Nob
+10 Melee
Slightly newer, and by his usage stats, a card that players are trying to use, but without much success and all round buff should help with his all round viability.
Gooz Blackclaw – Bad Moons Clan Wazbom Blastajet
-3 Cost
Similar to the previous comments on high competition, the 40-50pt ranged options for Orks are very diverse so bringing Blackclaw down in price should make him even more competitive. And with BGH should be another one doing well in the new Apocalypse season.
Squigface’s Facekrumpa – Deathskulls Grot Mega-Tank
+20 Wounds, +12 Range
A newer Ork vehicle still finding a spot, and overall still a bit lacklustre. Low levels aside, its stats were trending behind, so we’ve corrected that here!
Servants of the Emperor
Dead Eyes’ Dunno – Astra Militarum Ratling Sniper
+10 Wounds
To celebrate some new Ratling joining the fray, Dunno has been packing in the pies, and it shows with a decent increase to his waistline.
Commissar Chellik – Officio Prefectus Commissar
+5 Range, +5 Melee
One of the original cards, the humble Commissar, has been long out competed for his spot, so a modest increase to his offensive output should help keep him relevant, and keep wayward guardsmen in line!
Wrathful Spirit – Astra Militarum Basilisk
+10 Range
Premium ranged Barrage is highly desirable to the SoE faction (as good ordnance should be), but the Basilisk is a bit behind the curve of some of its newer challengers, so this should level that field as well as its artillery shells do.
Canis Igni – Catachan Hellhound
+10 Range
A more unique option as a solo anti-infantry tank, the buff to anti-infantry, plus the increased supply of prometheum should make the Hellhound a very tempting specialist tool in the right scenario.
Titus Sheard – Kasrkin Sergeant
+5 Range, +5 Melee
Last but not least, the Kasrkin Sergeant, also relatively new, is, on reflection, a few stats short of similar pieces in other factions. And while not in any desperate need balance wise, having spotted it, it felt right to correct it ahead of time.
Necron
Ulthakar – Szarekhan Skorpekh Destroyer Lord
-30 Wounds, +20 Range, +20 Melee
Hardwired for Destruction: “While an enemy card is below 75% -> 90% wounds, the friendly card opposite gains Hardwired, boosting their attack stats by +20.”
Ulthakar is a Warlord that is always difficult due to the flat stat increase being a duality of very powerful early on, and then giving diminishing returns. That said, there are many who still would be keen to play him if he were more viable (yes, we can see the stats, yes there is more than one!), and so we’ve approached him in this way which shouldn’t overly affect the early power level, but make a significant difference in the later game.
Early on the difference between 75% and 90% wounds is negligible but can be quite significant in the later game. This should give Ulthakar an almost guaranteed uptime on any damaged opponent.
Additionally, we’ve reworked his stats, where the wounds pool for Bersek wasn’t offering much in high-level play with potential damage output, losing 30 wounds to gain 20 damage to each attack type will make a significant difference while also likely ending in the same amount of Berserk stacks.
Tyranids
Specimen: LV-808-WS-δ – Hive Fleet Leviathan Hive Tyrant
-3 Cost
Swooping Assault: “At the end of each player’s turn, one random enemy card loses -15 -> -25 Wounds.”
Another classic Warlord with a fixed rule. And with a similar approach.
Removing 4 cost, just makes the Hive Tyrant a bit more flexible to use, and a small filler goes a long way in allowing a few more triggers of its rule. It also places it a bit further apart from the more premium Swarmlord, which is quite stark in contrast.
Also the main change is the increase to his end-of-rule damage increase. It’s enough to make a good difference over the course of a game and is a ⅔ increase in overall damage output. We’ll see if it’s enough to see a few more Flyrants out there!
And with that, we’re done for this Season and for this Year!
Thank you all so much for another great year, it’s been a huge amount of fun, as always. Hope you all have a wonderful time over the holiday season, and that the Red Gobbo brings you all the loot you want!
Merry Grotmas and a Happy New Year!

Is the hive tyrants cost -3 or -4, the text has both numbers.
Buffing the Ultkar rule from 75% to 90% seems a bit high
Can we get an update for Zagstruk’s warlord rule? There is currently no reason to upgrade him to Level 13.
