Seven Years of Battle… And Biomass

Seven years ago, Warhammer Combat Cards marched onto the battlefield for the very first time. Since then, we’ve fought hundreds of millions of battles, released thousands of cards, introduced entirely new ways to play, and built an incredible community that continues to surprise us every single day.

Whether you’ve been with us since day one or joined the fight more recently, thank you. Every battle fought, every deck shared, every piece of feedback and every community creation has helped shape Warhammer Combat Cards into what it is today.

To celebrate our seventh anniversary, we’re embracing one of the galaxy’s most terrifying factions…

The Hunt Begins

What better way to celebrate seven years than with one of the most infamous Tyranid horrors ever to stalk the battlefields of the 41st Millennium?

The Red Terror has erupted from beneath the sands!.

Whether you’re commanding the endless hunger of the Hive Mind or desperately trying to survive against it, this anniversary is all about celebrating one of Warhammer 40,000’s most iconic alien factions.

A Community Worth Celebrating

One of our favourite parts of Warhammer Combat Cards has always been seeing the incredible creativity of our community.

From beautifully painted Hive Fleets to unique colour schemes and stunning centrepieces, our players continue to inspire us with their hobby projects.

Here’s just a small selection of the Tyranid miniatures shared by members of our community.

Questions for the Hive Mind… (and the Team)

We asked the Warhammer Combat Cards team a few completely serious, absolutely essential Tyranid-related questions.

If you had to be consumed by one Tyranid creature, which would you choose?

Harry: I mean if you’re technically going for “consumed”, I don’t think many of them actually eat you, just the ones specialised to harvest biomass? So definitely not a ripper swarm. Take too long and be pretty horrendous. Maybe a Haruspex? I would hope it would be over pretty quickly. Red Terror sounds good in theory, but if you’re swallowed whole, you’re going to be digesting for a while. No thanks.

Benji: The Haruspex.

Which Tyranid would make the worst office colleague?

Harry: The obvious choice would be a Venomthrope since it’s just big old clouds of poison all over the place, but a rebreather should fix that. I might go for a biovore? They’re not probably not too bad over all, but the fact that every time you walk around a corner you have to worry about triggering a spore mine is probably going to be too much to take.

Benji: Venomthrope or Malanthrope.

You’re trapped on a Space Hulk. You can only bring one Warhammer Combat Cards Warlord with you. Who are you picking?

Harry: Probably Ghosar. Space Hulk = Genestealers and Ghosar can control them. If it’s full of Orks instead I reckon a Patriarch is going to be the right guy to have on your side, and he’ll know all the best vent routes. Also one of the few that will be able to talk to you in a way you can understand.

Benji: Swarmlord, if there are Genestealers or Tyranids onboard, he can tell them I’m inedible.

Which Tyranid do you think secretly gives the best hugs?

Harry: Maybe a Ripper? I know we all think they’re secretly cute, so while it may not be a hug, if it’s friendly, it might be quite cuddly!

Benji: Toxicrene – he’s designed to hug.

If the Hive Mind challenged you to a game of Combat Cards, what faction are you bringing?

Harry: If it’s just a game of Combat Cards, I would have to go to Aeldari as my favourite faction. But I would be suspicious why this is what they’ve reached out for.

Benji: Swarmlord, then I know what they’re thinking.

The Red Terror is chasing you. What’s your survival plan?

Harry: I think all of the Tyranids like the Red Terror have “tremorsense”? So move as little as possible, and aim to get up as high as possible from the ground.. Not many people know this but the Red Terror has the same weakness as Daleks. They can’t climb stairs.

Benji: Persuade my buddy Swarmlord to tell the Haruspex to eat it.
