The new season will start on Monday, June 9th.

Greetings, citizens,
After the Angron’s crash landing into real space and following carnage, a more composed but just as deadly figure emerges from the Warp. None other than the Crimson King, Magnus the Red. Bringing with him a new wave of Tzeentchian allies the already strong Chaos psychic roster is being notably expanded.
With that in mind we’re doing a deep dive into all things Tzeentch and there are plenty of changes to be made! Chaos psychic has always been on the stronger side of available psychic builds and as such has had a swingy history of balance changes. As times have changed the roster has been long overdue for a tidy up and this should leave the roster in a much more coherent and playable state.
Lets get to it!
Balance Changes:

Tzeentch
Overall the Khornate roster is fairly undiverse, and while this is to be expected to a degree, Khorne means of waging war is fairly one dimensional we can certainly look to diversify that somewhat. We’ve mixed up a few traits this season and the new Khorne releases add a good number of new traits and tools to their roster, so lets have a more detailed look!

Zzak’tar – Pink Horror of Tzeentch
-23R, +11P, +15W, +9M
Ready Change: Psychic Ready Buff
Level Changes: Levels: 4,9,13 – Upgrade Ranged -> Psychic
We’re doing a fairly top down rework here for the Pink Horror to coincide with the soon to be arrival of the Blue and Brimstone Horrors. Changing from a triple attacker, the Pink Horror is losing its Ranged primary attack and switching it over to become a primary Psychic attacker. As such the upgrade tree is being reworked to reflect this and the Ready type (previously being a non factor) is changing to Psychic buff.

Spitesting – Screamer of Tzeentch
+10W, +5M
A classic support card that had a period of being an auto include, has since slipped with better options and historical nerfs. Now back to a more versatile standalone piece and able to continue to provide the valuable Psychic ready buff on Psychic.

Sorrian Lokh – Thousand Sons Aspiring Sorcerer
+10W, +5P, +5M
One of the original Thousand Sons cards, Sorrian is perhaps a bit dated so an all round tune up should help out this older card.

T’chaz’narr – Tzaangor Shaman of Tzeentch
+5W, +5P
Another older card for the Tzeentch roster that never quite competed, where at a mid range cost you were always better placed to go for filler or major damage. This change isn’t likely to overhaul that, but certainly improve it.

Xentep Korazon – Thousand Sons Infernal Master
+15P
The Infernal Master has been in an invaluable slot as a strong mid cost Inspiring Presence card for the psychic roster, but overall has been fairly lacklustre in damage potential. With a massive buff in psychic power he should be a serious threat as well as a valuable supporter.

The Changeling – Trickster of Tzeentch
+15W
One of the more disruptive and durable of the Tzeentch daemons, the Changeling is getting a bit more bulk to cement it in this role.

The Blue Scribes – Daemonic Loremasters of Tzeentch
Ready Change: Psychic Debuff -> Psychic Buff
Talking of durable daemons, none are quite as potent as the Blue Scribes. Since the stat line is in a good place we’re going for a more subtle change with a change in Ready type from Psychic Debuff to Psychic Buff. Psychic Debuff as a ready type is incredibly situational and so is much better served in the roster as a ready buff instead.

Tzax’lan-tar – Lord of Change of Tzeentch
Ready Change: Psychic Debuff -> Psychic Buff
Same logic here as with the Blue Scribes, psychic debuff just doesn’t do enough in most games, and so we’re switching the Lord of Change over to Psychic Buff as well.

Kairos Fateweaver – Oracle of Tzeentch
+10W, +15P
One of the advantages that Kairos has was the Psychic buff over the regular Lord of Change, and to make up for that, and to show why Kairos is the named and more valuable version, he’s getting a strong buff to psychic and a small bump to Wounds.

Bonus Khorne

Karanak – Khornate Hound of Vengeance
Ready Change: Psychic Debuff -> Melee Buff

Gorecrawler – Greater Brass Scorpion of Khorne
Ready Change: Psychic Debuff -> Melee Buff
Although Angron Season has just passed, while reviewing the Tzeentch cards, it seemed to make sense to apply the same logic around Psychic debuff readies to other cards, so both the below Khorne cards are having their Psychic debuff changed to Melee ready, which makes them much higher utility.

Necrons

Navgran the Eternal – Sautekh Dynasty Cryptek
+5R, +5M
Necron Medicae options swing regularly between the cheaper options and Navgran is a bit behind at this point. A small all round damage buff should level the field a bit and separate from the tankier Canoptek Spyder.

Enforcer of Edicts – Triarch Praetorian
+10W, +3R, +3M
Another more midrange filler, and all round buff should help the Praetorian out in this crowded space.

Vargard Obyron – Sautekh Dynasty Aide and Protector
+10W, +10M
While technically a free card, Obyron is understated for his cost and rarity and is so getting a tune up, and by association, is a small buff to Nemesor Zandrekh.

Servants of the Emperor

The Triumph of St. Katherine – Solemn Procession of Sisters Pronatus
-20W, +15R, +15M
The Triumph of St Katherine has been in a tricky spot since the level rework introducing omni levels, with its attack being almost non-existent until those omni levels were reached. So we’ve shaved off a few Wounds to allow for an even bigger all round buff to its attack stats, meaning the card should have a lot more value earlier on.

Hunter’s Pride – Cadian Armoured Sentinel
+10W, +5R
Another midrange card that is easy to miss in its crowded environment. An all round buff should make it more attractive in that spot.

Kolossi – House Raven Knight Valiant
-50W
Trait Change: IP -> Fear
Kolossi is a very fearsome contender already and with some new Knights on the way we’re giving its current trait combo of BGH and IP to a new upcoming Knight that fits that trait combination better. With that in mind, the replacement trait that seems most appropriate is Fear given the Valiant’s ability to cause battle-shock tests. This obviously is a massive boost to Kolossi’s durability (if a downgrade in all round utility) and so a major chunk of Wounds is being taken off to compensate.

Space Marines:

Baastan Zweihann – Black Templars Primaris Castellan
-30W, +10R, +10M
Another ex-Berserker being revisited. With the change from Berserk to Anti-Infantry Baastan’s stats weren’t properly addressed and we’ve done a fix up here to rectify that.

Horgan Steelsoul – Space Wolves Iron Priest
+5R, +5M
Cheaper BGH cards can struggle unless they have the punch to back up the trait, so we’re doing just that for the Iron Priest.

Tyranids

Specimen: LV-009-SA-ζ – Hive Fleet Leviathan Mawloc
-6 Cost
A big monster that has swung in popularity over the years. As a crowded area in the Tyranid roster having more big hitters at a more reasonable price is always a win, and at this point the Mawloc needs it.
And with that all is left is to go over the cards added to the General Pool this Season:

Balance changes don’t matter much when you’re just gonna give +30% to the AI and make level 8 commons stringers than max levels.
I’m surprised that the Chaos Chosen weren’t retooled considering they are almost identical to the Black Legion Chaos Space Marine except the Chosen’s attack stats and hit points are far worse for the same deck point cost.
I’m completely gutted over the change to Pink Horror retool. Largely considered the best card for the cost and a Swiss army knife of uses. Not sure if anyone remembers comedian George Carlin’s bit on why companies change things “because they found out we like it”. This reminds me of that comedy routine.
Skulltaker need mele buff. Kharn need more W. Sorcerers need less anti infranrty.
