Greetings Citizens,

It’s long overdue but finally we have the Votann wave two! And with it comes a brand new Warlord; Buri Aegnirssen. Along with Buri comes 9 new bodyguards, and the much anticipated Votann dedication!

Buri introduces a new and divergent playstyle for the Votann while still sticking to the strong themes of resilience and revenge! Lets take a look at him now:

His rule Unhinged Vengeance reads as follows:

“If a friendly card takes damage from an attack and survives, it immediately readies at 100% (up to a maximum of 6 times per turn). Additionally the first time this Warlord would be killed, instead it heals for 50% of its Base Wounds.”

The main part of the rule has a few key conditions. It must take damage from an attack, so being attacked with shields up and taking no damage will not trigger it, and the card must survive so any card destroyed will not activate.

This means that from a deck building strategy this flies in the face of current Votann meta where shields and wide boards of cheap fodder works well. You want resilient cards, and you want them to get hit.

In addition this directly benefits from the AoE meta, so Buri is going to love facing off against Psionic Blast and Barrage. In addition, other than that overarching theme, the way to build Buri is fairly agnostic, since it cares about ready types and so you can swing to either Ranged or Melee depending on your preference.

As well as all of the above, Buri is a serious piece in his own right, boasting impressive stats, and has the dual traits of Melee Scout and Deadshot! A Deadshot Warlord is always a serious threat and combined with his first death heal, he’s an incredibly potent duelist. Just note that his heal works like Angrons, so he can still be taken out with a powerful enough attack through the healing!

Overall this should prove an interesting reimagining of what has become a more “solved” Votann meta, and should be precisely the breath of fresh air that is needed with the Votann faction update!
