The furnaces of the forge are blazing with the Fires of Mars as Thulia Ghuld marshals another warhost of Skitarii to purge the enemies of the Omnissiah. Thulia is so bellicose that even the other Archmagos fear her and openly reprimanded her single minded focus on war and weapons technologies and perhaps even fear her ambitions.
It is no surprise then that Thulia represents an all out aggression Warlord that utilises every scrap of offensive output to the fullest extent. Many Warlords tend to specialise in one attack type or a general playstyle, but Thulia specialises in two, or more specifically really rewards dual attack type cards. As a supreme Commander Thulia Ghuld has the classic two-parter rule that all Supreme commanders have, and both focus on damage.
Warlord Rule
Engulf the foes of the Omnissiah in The Fires of Mars
“Whenever a friendly card makes a Ranged attack, increase that attack by 30% of its Melee attack value. Whenever a friendly card makes a Melee attack, increase that attack by 30% of its Ranged attack value.
Additionally, at the start of your turn, the enemy card with the highest cost takes damage equal to 10% of its base Wounds.”
Mastering the Rule
The first part of the rule is fairly straightforward. If a card has both Ranged and Melee attacks then it will add 30% of the attack stat not being used to each attack. This works both on offense and defense, meaning the attack boost is always active unless facing psychic attacks.
The second part is a simple one but does add a good level of consistent damage to the opponents highest cost card. This only triggers on Thulia’s turn so a high initiative helps to get an extra tick in, and as the damage is calculated on base wounds, it can clear a lane before an attack is made allowing for rare flanking double ups.
Obviously this benefits balanced cards massively. However as long as the model has both Ranged and Melee, heavily onesided attack cards also work well by turning their secondary attack from an afterthought to a potent threat or a viable pivot. This gives lots of viable ways to build her roster up and gives a real opportunity to let balanced attackers, who often struggle to find the right spot, have a home to shine.
Where many Servants decks rely on having a maxed out deck size Thulia just cares about damage so it’s a good chance to wheel out the big guns guilt free. After all the more attack stats packed onto the card, the bigger the attack buffs are going to be!
So gather up your largest war engines, fire the forges and praise the Omnissiah as you unleash the full fury of Mars on the unworthy.
